John E. Lansche, Jr.
John practices in business transactions with a concentration in commercial real estate development, commercial real estate leasing (emphasizing retail and mixed-use leasing), commercial lending and marina/resort acquisition, development and operations. A significant portion of John’s practice is devoted to marina-related transactions. John has also served as managing partner for GLV since its inception.
Notably, John served as marina counsel in a landmark transaction valued at $5.65 billion, recognized as one of the largest in the industry’s history. This deal involved the acquisition of a portfolio comprising 138 marinas across the United States and Caribbean, underscoring his expertise in high-value, complex marina transactions.
With John’s leadership, GLV has also served as lead counsel in the negotiation of commercial leases for Fenton, a transformative 92-acre mixed-use development in Cary, North Carolina. Fenton is Cary’s first vertically integrated, mixed-use destination, featuring over 2.5 million square feet of retail, office, restaurant, hotel, and multifamily space upon full buildout. The initial phase, which opened in April 2022, includes 250,000 square feet of specialty and experiential retail, 195,000 square feet of Class-A office space, and 357 apartment units. John’s involvement in this high-profile project underscores his expertise in complex commercial leasing transactions within large-scale, mixed-use developments.
John advises developers, investors, lenders, buyers, and sellers on financing, leasing, land use and development, conservation easements, construction, real estate title insurance, and all aspects of structuring commercial loan and business transactions. Before co-founding GLV, John practiced with large firms headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina.
John graduated with Honors in Psychology from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. He received his Master’s in Human Resources from the Darla Moore School of Business and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina. While at Hampden-Sydney, John served as Treasurer of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, was named to Omicron Delta Kappa, and served as an Advisor to the Honor Court. John recently served as chair of his class reunion giving.
